If you’re looking for a new gaming laptop, Alienware / Dell should be at the top of your shopping list. The company took first place in Laptop Mag’s first-annual Best and Worst Gaming Laptop Brands ratings, followed closely by competitors MSI and Razer in second and third place.

To help consumers on their shopping journey, Laptop Mag’s editors evaluated each of the top nine brands on eight different criteria, including design, keyboard quality, average review score, warranty protection, innovation, display quality, customization / selection and built-in software.

 

“When you’re shopping for a gaming laptop, brand is one of the most important criteria,” Laptop Mag Editorial Director Avram Piltch said. “Manufacturers in this space each have their own unique design language, software and innovative features that make their systems unique.”

 

Each company’s combined score was on a 100-point scale, with Alienware / Dell earning 90 points, thanks to its attractive designs, high review scores, gorgeous displays and powerful software. MSI scored a strong 85 points, based on its innovative features, sharp screens and awesome mechanical keyboards. Razer’s attractive slim designs, colorful display panels and high review scores helped that brand get to 81 points.

The other six brands, ordered by rank, are Asus, Acer, Origin, Aorus / Gigabyte, Lenovo and HP.

 

“The competition was very close,” said Laptop Mag Editor-in-Chief Mark Spoonauer. “But Alienware / Dell topped our Best and Worst Gaming Laptop Rankings, because of its commitment to quality and innovation across its lineup. From the industry-leading OLED panel on the Alienware 13 to the affordable performance of the Inspiron 15 7000, we were consistently impressed.”
